Description
Tawharanui Campground is a spacious, grassy coastal site nestled behind dunes on the northern side of Tawharanui Peninsula. Set within a predator proof conservation sanctuary and adjacent to a marine reserve, it offers dramatic coastal scenery and abundant wildlife experiences to campers.

About
Operated by Auckland Council, the campground divides into six sections with native plants. There are two distinct areas:
- East: tent only area for around 200 people
- West: all‑mode access for up to 60 campers
Water taps (treated bore supply) are scattered around. Vault toilets are provided. There is no power, no bins, and no fires allowed, campervans need to be Self-Contained. Booking is essential via Auckland Councils website. Recommended you book in advance, as it’s gated and an access code is required. Maximum stays are 7 nights in summer, reduced to 100 campers in winter.
